Downeaster to Celebrate 10th B-Day

It recently survived a possible funding cut.

Amtrak's Downeaster, which has , is celebrating its 10th anniversary this week.

"It's been a success by every measure and we're looking forward to the expansion of the service to Brunswick," Amtrak official Stephen Gardner told the Associated Press. "This is a corridor to watch."

The exact anniversary is Thursday.

The Downeaster recently survived by Republicans. Exeter officials also drew up a plan to charge for parking at the Exeter Downeaster stop, which drew from passengers and an advocacy group. Officials ultimately dropped the plan.

The Downeaster runs from Portland, Maine to Boston, Mass. It recently launched on its trains and officials plan to install stops further north in Maine, including Freeport and Brunswick.
