Exeter High Grad to Receive NH Medal of Honor

Nicholas Bernier, a combat medic, was killed in Afghanistan in 2011.

 

Army Spc. Nicholas Bernier, a combat medic who was killed in an attack in Afghanistan in 2011, will be awarded the New Hampshire Medal of Honor during a ceremony Friday.

Bernier, a graduate of Exeter High School, was 21 years old. He grew up in East Kingston.

The following fallen soldiers will also be awarded the honor:

  • Captain Michael Leo Chinburg, Durham
  • Captain Gary S. Dillon, Meredith
  • LCpl Michael Geary, Derry

The ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. at the State House in Concord. Gov. John Lynch and Deputy Adjutant General Brig. Gen. Carolyn Protzmann will present the award.

The medal was designed by local artist Andre Belanger.
