FBI Joins Criminal Probe of Hep C Outbreak

A suspect has not been named.

The FBI and other federal officials have joined a criminal probe into a hepatitis C outbreak at Exeter Hospital, according to the Associated Press.

Twenty people have been infected. State health officials have said they suspect a caused the outbreak.

Hundreds of patients have been tested for hepatitis C, a chronic and potentially fatal liver disease. About 120 still need to be tested. Health officials have said the victim toll will likely rise as test results come back.

Test sites have been across the Seacoast.

U.S. Attorney John Kacavas, whose office is in Concord, told the Associated Press he has brought in FBI agents and representatives from the Food and Drug Administration to investigate the outbreak.
