Power Back for 1,000+ in Exeter Area

High winds knocked out service.

 

UPDATE, 4:30 p.m.

Power has been restored to nearly all of the more than 1,000 customers in Exeter and Stratham who lost power this afternoon when high winds knocked trees into power lines.

As of 4:30 p.m., Unitil reported two customers in Stratham and one customer in Exeter were without power. In Hampton, 934 customers were still without power.

UPDATE, 3 p.m.

High winds have knocked out power to hundreds of customers in the Exeter area.

As of 1 p.m., Unitil reported the following number of customers were without power:

  • Exeter, 172
  • Stratham, 1,060

PREVIOUS STORY, 8:30 a.m.

Strong winds, with gusts as high as 60 mph, knocked down trees and cut power to thousands throughout southern New Hampshire overnight.

The Unitil power company reported nearly 1,000 of its customers without power, including nearly 800 in Exeter, East Kingston, Kensington and South Hampton. Power to all those customers was restored by about 8:15 a.m.

More outages could happen later Thursday, as winds will remain high, with gusts reaching 50 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

Public Service of New Hampshire said it is working to restore power to 4,411 affected customers. In Londonderry, 1,312 customers are without power, and another 219 Derry customers also have no electricity. Other area towns affected included Nashua, with 1,143 outages, Auburn with 117 and Hudson with 89.

New Hampshire Electric Co-op reported another 1,025 outages.

Liberty Utilities has just 21 New Hampshire outages at this time, all of them in Grafton County.
