How Can Swasey Parkway Be Improved?
Trustees are discussing possibly renovating picnic areas and adding permanent bathrooms.
Overseers of Swasey Parkway are discussing ways to improve it.
The park, which runs along the Squamscott River downtown, has a bandstand and dozens of benches. Summer concerts and the annual American Independence Festival in July are held there. A beer/chili festival is also held in the fall. Currently, dogs are not allowed in the park.
The Swasey Parkway trustees are looking at ways to improve the space, including possibly renovating picnic areas and adding a permanent bathroom house.
What kind of improvements would you like to see at the parkway?

"They need to close the Parkway to all traffic. (Build) small parking lots on either end, and have the area for just foot and bike traffic."

"Let it just be. The more 'improvements' that are made just take away from it. Take the chain off from around the birch tree. Tress are meant to be climbed by kids, brooks meant to be explored, hills rolled down by kids year round. I hate to see a natural setting filled with buildings, signs and restrictions."

Allow dogs.. make it a oneway...... Put charcoal grill around so people can grill and picnic down there. Canoe or kayak rentals maybe

I love dogs, but they should not be allowed. There are plenty of other areas in town where you walk walk/play with your dog. The reality is that some people don't clean up after their dogs and I, for one, enjoy being on Swasey Parkway and not have to look for poop every time I take a step.
