Plug Pulled on Exeter Solar Panel Project

Officials cited concern about cost.

Town officials on Monday pulled the plug on a plan to build solar panels on the sewage treatment plant on Newfields Road.

The town had been approved for a $50,000 federal grant for the project, which would have cost more than $300,000.

The town had been in talks with Dover-based Revolution Energy to erect the panels.

The solar array, which would have been larger than one recently erected at (right), would have provided 5 percent of the plant's power.

Fellow Selectman Bobby Aldrich said the board agreed with the idea of having a more environmentally friendly power source, but echoed Ferraro's concern about cost.

Selectman Julie Gilman voted that the project go ahead, but she was out-voted by Ferraro and Aldrich, who voted to scrap it  Fellow Selectmen Matt Quandt (sickness) and Don Clement (surgery) were absent for the vote.
