Pedestrian in Bad Crash Fighting for Her Life

Diane Pinkham, of Newmarket, was critically injured in a crash Wednesday morning.

A 61-year-old woman who police said was struck by a car near a crosswalk on Hampton Road Wednesday morning is fighting for her life at a Massachusetts hospital.

Diane Pinkham, of Newmarket, was hit while she was walking to work, according to Police Chief Richard Kane. The force of the impact knocked her out of her shoes.

She was transported to Exeter Hospital and then flown by helicopter to Boston Medical Center because of the severity of her injuries. She was listed in critical condition with serious injuries to her lower body.

The driver of the car was identified as Lizabeth Comeau, 59, of Hampton. She was uninjured, police said.

No charges have been filed against Comeau, though that remains a possibility.

Kane said glare from the sun likely distracted Comeau in the moments before the crash.

Comeau was driving a Ford Crown Victoria. The force of the impact punched a hole through the front of the car.
