Chris Suprock's device could saves lives.

A local engineer may have unlocked the secret to a new heart pump technology that could end up saving lives.

Chris Suprock recently built a new artificial heart pump out of his Exeter workshop.

Suprock, 27, earned a PhD in engineering from the University of New Hampshire. He started his engineering company, Suprock Technologies, in 2007.

His new new heart pump takes advantage of ferrofluid, a magnetic liquid that activates the pump to mimic a natural heart. It runs on a wireless power transmitter, a safer alternative to current heart pumps that uses wires – something that can cause infections.

Suprock is working with several companies to expand his idea.
