It was tapped tonight in Exeter.
Today was (another) day for the history books in Exeter, as beer was poured at the Folsom Tavern for the first time in more than 100 years. Scores of people came out to celebrate the release of Redhook's new American Independence Ale, which honors Exeter's American Independence Museum. The event coincided with the museum's season opening, which was held Wednesday. Beer lovers came out to taste the beer as it was tapped at the Folsom Tavern, which was built in 1775 and where colonists gathered to drink in the days leading up to the American Revolution. The beer is another in Redhook's "Brewery Backyard" series. Redhook was inspired to create the beer based on colonial history. Leading up to the American Revolution, colonists were frustrated…

Town officials have a plan for it.
An old downtown eyesore will soon get new life. Town officials recently completed the $49,000 purchase of an old Getty gas station in between the Police and Fire Departments at the corner of Court Street and Bow Street. Officials plan to turn the property into a parking lot soon and possibly use it to expand the police/fire departements later. What do you think of the plan? Let us know in the poll below!

The upgrades were made possible by the New Hampshire Community Loan Fund.
The New Hampshire SPCA recently announced that the energy upgrade project that will save approximately $50,000 each year is now complete and operational. The renewable energy project, which began more than a year ago, was funded in part with a loan package from the New Hampshire Community Loan Fund (Community Loan Fund), using ARRA funds from the U.S. Department of Energy and the NH Office of Energy and Planning, State of New Hampshire Public Utilities Commission and the Energy Efficiency Program through the Retail Merchants Association of NH. The NHSPCA has gone green, converting from oil to a unique combination of insulation improvements, wood pellet boilers and solar thermal collectors. The annual cost to operate the Adoption and …

'American Independence Ale' was inspired by an Exeter museum.
Cheers! Redhook's new beer honoring the American Independence Museum will be tapped in Exeter tonight. The beer – the fourth in Redhook's "Brewery Backyard" series – will poured at Exeter's Folsom Tavern during a special "Independence Ale Trail" tonight. It will be the first time beer is poured at the tavern in more than 100 years. Check back to Exeter Patch tonight for photos of the new beer. The event coincides with the museum's season opening, which was held Wednesday. Redhook said it was inspired to create the beer based on colonial history. Leading up to the American Revolution, colonists were frustrated over the high taxes placed on imported ale, so they began brewing beer in their homes. "American Independence Ale" will be served at…

Town officials bought the land for $49,000.
An abandoned Getty gas station that has long been an eyesore in the downtown area will soon get new life. Town officials plan to turn the property into public parking after buying it for $49,000. Voters approved the purchase during Town Meeting earlier this year. "Acquiring the property was a big step for that area," Town Manger Russ Dean said in a statement today announcing the town closed on the purchase. "We’ll be able to remove the old building and the sign, which will be a good start." The property is located right next to the Police and Fire Departments at the corner of Court Street and Bow Street. Long term, town officials have discussed possibly using the land to expand those departments. The deal was nearly jeopardized in December…

It will feature special motion seats.
A huge movie theater in Epping – featuring several 3D theaters and special motion seats – is currently under construction. It's being built by O'Neil Cinemas, which currently operates theaters in Londonderry and Lisbon, Conn. The theater will be located at the Brickyard Square commercial block where routes 101 and 125 meet in Epping. A Marshalls recently opened at Brickyard Square, which features a Market Basket grocer and several retailers. The theater is scheduled to open by the fall. The construction work is being done by Portsmouth-based DeStefano & Associates, among other companies. It takes about eight miles to drive to the new theater from the center of Exeter. That's about half the distance it takes to drive to the similarly sized …
