He's expected to be here on Friday.
Mitt Romney will be back in the Granite State on Friday, a campaign staffer confirmed this morning. Romney will make an appearance in the town of Hillsborough, holding an event at the Sawyer Bridge at 16 Antrim Road at 1:30 p.m. Hillsborough is about 30 miles west of Manchester. Romney was in New Hampshire twice in one week last month, making stops in Manchester and Portsmouth. New Hampshire is seen as a key swing state in the 2012 presidential election, and both Republicans and Democrats have been focusing a lot of energy here of late. Vice President Joe Biden will visit New Hampshire for the fourth time this year on Tuesday in Keene.

It's one of several trips the vice president has made to the Granite State.
Vice President Joe Biden will return to New Hampshire next week, a campaign official confirmed this afternoon. Biden is scheduled to speak at a political event on Tuesday, May 22 in Keene. No further details have been released. Biden has made three visits to New Hampshire already this year, most recently on April 12, when he gave a speech on the Buffett Rule in Exeter and made a retail stop at The Works Bakery Cafe in Portsmouth. The Republican National Committee was quick to issue a statement once word of Biden's visit was made public. "Vice President Biden should use this trip to explain Obama's hypocrisy on the deficit and the $5 trillion debt facing the people of New Hampshire," said Allie Brandenburger, an RNC spokesperson. The RNC …

He was lauded for his service.
Town Treasurer Don Brabant will leave his position after more than 30 years of service. Brabant has been planning a wedding and is moving to Portsmouth. He had to resign as treasurer because the holder of that job must be an Exeter resident, according to town regulations. Brabant's last day will be June 30. He started as treasuer nearly 33 years ago on Oct. 2, 1979 when he took over for Homer Snell. Brabant also has to leave his spot on Exeter's Budget Recommendations Committee. “I’ve truly enjoyed working with Don," Town Manager Russ Dean said in a statement today. "He was tough, opinionated, but always fair and willing to listen. "He supported the mission and cared deeply about the Town. His record speaks for itself. He’s been so …

Town officials bought the land for $49,000.
An abandoned Getty gas station that has long been an eyesore in the downtown area will soon get new life. Town officials plan to turn the property into public parking after buying it for $49,000. Voters approved the purchase during Town Meeting earlier this year. "Acquiring the property was a big step for that area," Town Manger Russ Dean said in a statement today announcing the town closed on the purchase. "We’ll be able to remove the old building and the sign, which will be a good start." The property is located right next to the Police and Fire Departments at the corner of Court Street and Bow Street. Long term, town officials have discussed possibly using the land to expand those departments. The deal was nearly jeopardized in December…

UPDATE: State Sen. Andy Sanborn, R-Henniker, who served as a co-chairman of Ron Paul's New Hampshire Primary effort, offered a one word comment upon hearing that Paul was ending active campaigning: "Sad." Sanborn, who co-owns The Draft in Concord and had a recipe featured in Paul's annual cookbook, was one of many Republicans that was heavily courted during the primary. He stated that Paul's positions on personal freedom and his plan to fix federal finances the first year in office were two of the reasons he was backing the candidate. Paul placed second in the primary behind Mitt Romney. Former GOP presidential candidate and current Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson issued a statement this afternoon, seeking to court Paul supporters. "You …

Motorists stranded with minor vehicle problems on Interstate 95 from Portsmouth to Seabrook will soon find help. Beginning Friday, May 18, the New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT) is once again introducing “service patrols” for the summer on I-95, from the Massachusetts state line to Exit 7 during early morning and afternoon commuting hours. The goal is to reduce the potential for significant traffic tie-ups by clearing minor incidents, such as flat tires, charging a battery, or vehicle overheating, as quickly as possible. The service patrol’s three-month pilot project last year during the I-95 peak summer traffic season was a success. The NHDOT’s Bureau of Turnpikes is continuing the service this summer. A new truck for …
