'Dic' Donohue to 'Stand Strong in Remembrance of the Boston Marathon Bombings'

MBTA Transit officer, whose wife has ties to Exeter, will help the Red Cross event.

Richard "Dic" Donohue, the MBTA Transit Police Officer injured in the gun battle after the Boston Marathon bombings, will be among those participating in the American Red Cross program, "Stand Strong in Remembrance of the Boston Marathon Bombings."

Donohue, whose wife Kim grew up in Exeter and graduated from Exeter High School, plans to participate in one of the blood drives April 19 in Watertown.

The Red Cross issued a statement on the importance of the blood drive:

"When Officer Donohue was wounded in the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombings, he required more than 46 blood products. Trauma patients like Officer Donohue are just one example of why it's so important to donate blood or platelets. It's the blood on the shelves that helps save lives before, during and after a tragedy or disaster."
