Power Restored in Exeter After Big Outage

Power was knocked out for more than half of town Tuesday afternoon.

Update: Power was restored to all of Exeter by 3:05 p.m., according to Unitil.

Power was knocked out to more than half of Exeter Tuesday afternoon.

Outages occurred at about 2:20 p.m. At 2:35 p.m., Unitil reported 4,112 Exeter customers—or about 52 percent of town—had no power.

Kensington was the only other community in Unitil's coverage area that saw a noticeable power disruption. There were 63 customers without power as of 2:35 p.m.

Unitil spokesman Alec O'Meara said the cause of the outages was under investigation.

"There was a reported fault on our sub-transmission line," he said. "We were able to switch to alternate line to restore even though the cause of the fault hasn’t been located yet. Crews are still out trying to locate the fault."

The outages happened after a steady rain fell on the Seacoast all day.
