Is The Loaf and Ladle Still Closed?

The owner of the landmark restaurant has had financial problems.

The landmark Loaf and Ladle restaurant in downtown Exeter remained closed Wednesday as the owner apparently tries to sell it.

The restaurant closed earlier this month, and it's unclear when or if it will reopen.

Owner Meredith Stolper owes $23,602.12 in property taxes and water/sewer bills to the town. Last year, she tried to raise $77,000 through an online fundraising campaign to remedy her financial woes. She ended up raising $11,280.

Stolper could not be reached for comment. She told the Union Leader she's trying to sell the restaurant, which was valued at about $256,000. She said the closure is "temporary."

The restaurant has operated on Water Street for more than 25 years.
