Loaf and Ladle Put Up for Sale

The restaurant closed after the owner experienced financial problems.

The landmark Loaf and Ladle restaurant in downtown Exeter is up for sale.

The restaurant closed earlier this month after owner Meredith Stolper experienced financial woes. Last year, she tried to raise $77,000 through an online fundraising campaign. She ended up raising $11,280. Stolper owes $23,602.12 in property taxes and water/sewer bills to the town.

Stolper could not be reached for comment. She previously told the Union Leader she's trying to sell the restaurant, which was valued at about $256,000.

A "for sale" sign was recently put up on the restaurant by Kensington-based Milbury Associates.

The restaurant has operated on Water Street for more than 25 years.
