Loaf & Ladle in Danger of Closing

The restaurant has been in town for nearly 40 years.

Exeter's restaurant, a fixture in town for nearly 40 years, is in danger of closing.

Owner Meredith Stolper said she's been hit by several financial setbacks. She's asking for donations through Indiegogo, a crowd-funding website, to save her restaurant. Her goal is to collect $77,000.

"We've experienced a series of devastating setbacks ... that have created a recipe for financial disaster," Stolper said in YouTube video posted on Indiegogo. "Without your support the doors of the Loaf & Ladle will close forever."

Stolper has owned the business for the last 25 years. The restaurant, located downtown on the banks of the Exeter River, flooded three times in 2010. Last year, it experienced . And last month, Stolper said she was at the "wrong end of the stick" in a legal matter that has added to her financial woes.

The restaurant currently has a staff of 16 people.

People can donate money for the Loaf & Ladle through Indiegogo in increments including $10, $25, and $50. In exchange, they get recipes.

As of Monday afternoon, $500 had been raised through six donors.
