What People Are Saying About JTT . . .

Jenna Riley, Art Educator, Main Street Art

Over the past few months Main Street Art has been partnering with Journey To Tanzania, a collaborative exhibit blending photography with philanthropy to connect communities across the globe.  This group of photographers from New England and Hawaii recently traveled to Tanzania with The Giving Lens and took beautiful photographs of the landscape, people and animals. They have provided MSA with the use of their images in the classroom as inspiration for student artwork! Students in Jenna Riley's art classes were able to design a project relating to the photos of Tanzania. Projects ranged from drawing, painting, and sculpture. The artwork will be collected and put on display during a special Art Show and Reception for students and their families on Saturday, March 8th, from 12 until 2pm. At this time the Journey To Tanzania will also have their own artwork hanging in the MSA Gallery. This is one of Main Street Art's first ever Student Art Receptions! It will focus on giving students the opportunity to participate in the gallery, meet other art students,  and display artwork they have created in the classroom.

Kerry Little Kennedy, 4th Grade Educator, Old Town Elementary School, Maine

Our fourth graders began our own 'Journey' to Tanzania with a study  of the geography and culture of Tanzania through the use of photography, art, literature and ecology.  Building on the work we do in community building, we expanded our definition of community to talk about becoming humanitarians.  We then raised supplies for others in our global classroom of Tanzania.  We wrote letters to share our own culture and share our burgeoning understanding of the diverse lives, language and people of Tanzania.  These letters were lovingly packed a top the decorated boxes of school supplies they donated to the cause.  Our students are from a typical small community in rural Maine.  Many of our students are themselves are in need of assistance but they took the opportunity to help others for in this global study of altruism.
