Exeter Hospital Honors Retiring Docs

Four physicians were recently honored by Exeter Hospital for their years of service and contribution to the community. The physicians, who retired during the past year, were honored with plaques at the annual provider recognition dinner and lauded for their commitment.

William H. Gaw, MD, FACOG began his obstetrics and gynecology practice at the Exeter Clinic in 1980 and continued at ExeterWomen’s Care from 1982 to 2008. He completed his career at Partners for Women’s Health through 2012. Dr. Gaw’s dedication toExeter Hospital is exemplified by his distinguished service in many leadership roles, and his focus on providing outstanding care to his patients was recognized with the Exeter Hospital Physician Recognition Award in 2012. 

Denis B Hammond, MD was a founding member of the New Hampshire Oncology and Hematology practice located in the greater Manchester area. In 1980, Dr. Hammond identified a need for cancer care services in the Seacoast area and initially saw patients atExeter Hospital one morning per week. He gradually increased local cancer services and laid the foundation for the development ofExeter Hospital’s Comprehensive Cancer Center.

“I would like to thank the medical staff and administration of Exeter Hospital for their support in developing cancer care for the Exetercommunity,” said Dr. Hammond. “Over the past thirty years, I have had the pleasure of seeing cancer care at Exeter Hospital develop from a small chemotherapy clinic which I staffed once a week, to a program that comprehensively cares for patients from screening and prevention to  survivorship or the end of life.  It is an honor to have been associated with the wonderful people that have made this possible.”

C. David London, MD joined Exeter Hospital as a member of the medical staff in 1979 where he was chief of anesthesiology for twenty-six years of his thirty-three year career. Dr. London served as founding chairman of the Institutional Review Board and Ethics Committees and as a member of many other committees. Dedicated to providing state-of-the-art care with a particular interest in pain management and obstetrics, Dr. London cared for more than 36,000 patients during his tenure.

“I was extremely fortunate to be able to practice in the Exeter community for over 33 years,” said Dr. London. “The clinical expertise, compassion and commitment to continued learning among the medical, nursing and technical staff was second to none.  I was always learning from, and have wonderful memories of, the more than thirty five thousand patients who entrusted me with their care, and the great people who helped me provide it.” 

Jeffrey R. Troxell, MD, joined Exeter Hospital as a member of the medical staff in 1984, later forming Seacoast Urology in 1986, which joined with Core Physicians in 2007. Dr. Troxell’s many contributions to Exeter Hospital include his distinguished service as chairman of the Department of Surgery. Additionally, Dr Troxell was an active contributor to the weekly Tumor Board.

“I spent my entire career after residency at Exeter Hospital and cannot imagine working with a better group of people or having a more gratifying experience,” said Dr. Troxell. “I would like to thank all those who helped in the care of "my" patients over the years. I feel that I have left the urology department in the extremely capable hands.”
