PSNH Business Customers Can Cut Energy Costs with Glacial’s Wind-Power Program

LACONIA, N.H. — Commercial customers of Public Service of New Hampshire can now buy a type of sustainable energy — Glacial Renewable Energy Credits — that support currently available renewable resources as well as aid the development of new renewable resources in the United States.

And they can do so while also saving money on energy costs.

Glacial Energy, one of the fastest growing retail energy marketers in the United States, is providing sustainable energy to New Hampshire businesses in a 100 percent wind program while reducing their cost with PSNH. The Glacial Pure program matches customers’ electrical usage (kWh) with Green-e Energy® certified Pure Wind® renewable energy certificates (RECs). With the purchase of RECs, business customers are buying the renewable attributes of a specific type of renewable energy generation, which supports the development of renewable energy resources.

Glacial Energy offers commercial customers a 12-month fixed rate of $.0802 per kWh for PSNH delivery customers only, supply service starting in either July or August, as of now an offer that ends July 15, 2013. This price includes “Glacial Pure,” a Green-E certified 100 percent Wind REC program.

“Renewable energy is going to be an important part of New Hampshire’s energy portfolio moving forward. This is a great way for companies to reduce their electricity supply costs, as well as their carbon footprint,” said Richard Seeley, Glacial’s business development manager.

A renewable energy certificate, also known as a Green Tag, renewable energy credit or tradable renewable energy certificate (TREC), is a tradable environmental commodity used in North America to represent proof that one megawatt-hour (MWh) of electricity was generated by an eligible renewable energy resource, and each REC embodies the renewable energy attributes — environmental and social — associated with the generation of power from that resource.

The Glacial Pure program has been independently certified by Green-E Energy, the nation's leading certification and verification program for renewable energy that certifies these RECS are genuinely produced by wind power.

Providers of Green-e Energy Certified renewable energy agree to abide by the Green-e Energy Code of Conduct, and meet strict disclosure and truth-in-advertising requirements. All marketers of Green-e Energy Certified products undergo an annual verification audit to document that the company purchased and/or generated enough quantity and type of renewable energy to meet customer demand and marketing claims.

"We are very pleased that Glacial Energy is participating in Green-e Energy by offering a certified renewable energy option to its customers," said Alex Pennock, Green-e Energy manager. "Glacial Energy's customized REC solutions make it even easier for businesses and institutions nationwide to reduce the environmental impact of the electricity they use."

PSNH commercial customers who choose the Glacial Pure REC wind program can also be recognized by the EPA and its Green Power Partnership program. The EPA Green Power Partnership encourages the voluntary use of green power to reduce the risk of climate change. Partners benefit from the use of green power, while supporting the development of new, renewable energy in the United States.
