Donald Cole, WWII Vet, PEA Teacher, Dies at 91

Donald Cole wrote 10 books.

Donald Cole, a World War II veteran, Phillips Exeter Academy teacher, and author, died Oct. 5 at the age of 91.

He leaves behind his wife, Susan "Tootie" Wilson Cole, and their children.

Cole served in the Navy, reaching the rank of lieutenant. He led landing craft missions in the Pacific Theater during World War II, according to his obituary.

After the war, he spent 42 years at Phillips Exeter Academy, serving as a teacher and chair of the history department.

He wrote 10 books, including ones on Martin Van Buren and Andrew Jackson.

A celebration of Cole's life will be held Nov. 9 at 2 p.m. at the Exeter Congregational Church.
