·         A thesis is often termed as dissertation.

·         Dissertation or thesis is a hypothesis or conjecture.

·         A dissertation is an academic document that is formal and adhering to the guidelines of structure and policies defined by the instructor or examiner.

·         The purpose of the dissertation is to make a claim and prove it through research.

·         Two important pre requisites that define the nature of a thesis are “original” and “substantial”. The dissertation is constructed along lines that are both authentic and significantly important.

·         The initiating point of a thesis starts with making a claim in the form of hypothesis. Then the researcher attempts to prove the point through the collection of authentic data and evidence in to support that hypothesis.

·         The true essence of dissertation writing lies in critical thinking.

·         Dissertation writing is not just about stating the facts that have been gathered but it also states the lessons and conclusions that have been drawn out of it.

·         Dissertation writing includes a lot of citation which means using the work f other writers or researchers in your study in an attempt to authenticate the study or your claims.

·         It can either use some parts of previous researchers or it can use quotes of the research by stating the name of the author and giving him due credit. The entire study of the researcher cannot be used because it is considered to be plagiarized.

·         The structure and format of the dissertation should be correct.

·         The use of language and words should be appropriate with no grammatical error or spelling mistakes.

·         The tone of dissertation should be neutral and not leading.

·         Good writing skills are an important pre requisite for dissertation writing.

·         Each technical terminology that is used in the dissertation must be explained clearly in another section under definitions.

·         The dissertation should have a well established literature review that is pertinent to the study.

·         Literature review that is supporting your claim and also the one that is opposing your claim should be included in the dissertation.

·         The relevant data to support your research must be gathered through various primary and secondary means.

·         There should be a proper balance and integration in the two modes of gathering information.

·         The results should be represented graphically and through proper interpretation.

·         Use active voice in the document.

·         Write the dissertation in active tense.

·         Avoid self assessment in the dissertation, including both praise and criticism.

·         Ensure to comply with all academic writing rules.
