Alleged Child Abuser Indicted

Roland Dow was charged beating and burning his girlfriend's 3-year-old child.

A Plaistow man who police say beat and burned his girlfriend's son has been indicted on assault charges, according to Rockingham County Attorney Jim Reams.

Roland Dow, 27, faces up to 30 years in prison after police said he beat 3-year-old James Nicholson so badly that the boy was temporarily blinded. James is now recovering at his grandmother's home in Kingston. Police have collected dozens of Christmas toys for him that have been donated by people from across the region.

The case became a national story after Dow and the boy's mother, Jessica Linscott, fled New Hampshire when police issued warrants for their arrest. They evaded authorities for nearly two weeks before they were captured at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida.

Linscott was charged with several counts of misdemeanor-level child endangerment.

Dow is currently being held on $500,000 bail, while Linscott is being held on $100,000. They both told a judge that they couldn't afford to bail themselves out.

An indictment means a grand jury determined a trial is warranted based on evidence in the case.

Let me in his cell for two minutes. Gutless... he will be lucky to live five days in prison.
