Blood Drive in Honor of MBTA Officer Dic Donohue

The Red Cross is holding a number of drives this month in connection with the anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombing.

The American Red Cross and the town of Watertown, Mass., are holding a special blood drive this Saturday in the Bay State in honor of MBTA Police Officer Richard "Dic" Donohue, Watertown Patch reports.

Donohue – whose wife, Kim, grew up in Exeter – was shot in the femoral artery during the shootout in Watertown with the Boston Marathon bombers a year ago this Saturday, April 19. He is alive today because of the generosity of blood donors, Red Cross advocates say.

Donohue is paying it forward. He's helped promote the American Red Cross as well as funds for the bombing survivors.

Every two seconds, someone in America needs blood, according to the American Red Cross. Several area blood drives are being held this April in honor of the courageous individuals whose lives were forever changed by the Boston Marathon bombings. You can make an appointment to donate at one of these drives by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS (733-2767) or by visiting redcrossblood.org.
