Exeter Fire Lt. Charged with DWI, Placed on Leave

Norman Byrne is due in court later this month.

Exeter Fire Lt. Norman Byrne was charged with DWI in Exeter last week.

Byrne, 45, of Brentwood, was stopped by police Wednesday at about 9:30 p.m. and subsequently arrested.

Byrne was placed on paid administrative leave, according to Fire Chief Brian Comeau. Comeau said he couldn't comment further. 

Byrne is due in Exeter District Court Sept. 16 at 8 a.m.

Byrne's position is full-time. He earned a $69,462 salary last year.
