Exeter Hospital Sues 'Serial Infector' David Kwiatkowski

Kwiatkowski admitted to infecting 32 patients with hepatitis C.

Exeter Hospital filed a lawsuit against a former worker who pleaded guilty to infecting 32 patients who hepatitis C last year.

Authorities said David Kwiatkowski, who has hepatitis C, infected the patients by shooting himself up with fentanyl syringes that were later used on unsuspecting patients.

In addition to the Exeter victims, authorities said he likely infected at least a dozen more patients at hospitals across the country.

Exeter Hospital sued Kwiatkowski and several staffing agencies that employed him.

"Exeter Hospital has been working diligently to assist patients to obtain the care and support they need without waiting for a resolution of their claims at a future trial," said hospital spokeswoman Debra Vasapolli. "The hospital has settled a number of civil claims and is seeking reimbursement from those whose actions, including failing to report David Kwiatkowski for improper conduct, enabled him to secure employment in N.H. Such failures contributed significantly to the harm suffered by these patients."
