Exeter Police Name Officer of the Year

Several other employee awards were also handed out by the department on Thursday.

Submitted by the Exeter Police Department:

On February 20, 2014 the Exeter Police Department recognized several employees for their achievements and contributions to the department and Town of Exeter.

Sergeant Jason Dewire

The Exeter Police Departments officer of the year award is granted for outstanding achievement by an officer that brings credit to him and the department by their actions. The award involves performance above and beyond what is normally expected from an officer. Some of the criteria include productivity, organizational commitment, and decisiveness and skill. Excelling in these areas is something to be very proud of. What makes this award even more satisfying is that your work is being recognized by your peers. There were a number of officers nominated for this award but one has stood out above the others.

You were hired by our agency in December of 2010. You quickly proved yourself as a competent, self-motivated and professional police officer. In a short couple of years, you earned the status of Field Training Officer and became an active member of the Motor Cycle Unit. On more than one occasion, you have lead the department in arrests with a focus on DWI’s and those transporting drugs. Your motor vehicle work and overall effort has been frequently recognized by your peers.

On May 24th, 2013 you responded to an Exeter residence for an unresponsive female. Your quick action and use of CPR saved this woman’s life. You were ultimately awarded the department’s Life Saving Award for your actions.

On September 9, 2013 you were promoted to the rank of Sergeant after serving less than three years with our agency.

There is no doubt that the above mentioned work ethic and proof of excellent job performance assisted command staff in making their decision to promote you considering your limited years of experience.

On behalf of all the employees of the Exeter Police Department it is with great pride that I present the 2013 Officer of the year to Sergeant Jason Dewire.

Officer Justin Ranauro

In 2013 the Exeter Police department made 58 arrests for driving while intoxicated. The Exeter Police Department aggressively enforces motor vehicle laws and averages nearly 10,000 motor vehicle stops a year. This enforcement results in safer roadways for both drivers and pedestrians. An important part of this enforcement is taking impaired drivers off our streets. Making these arrests is one of the most important traffic arrests that an officer can make. Across the nation thousands of people including police officers and emergency workers are killed by the impaired driver.

Through your outstanding efforts you alone accounted for 12 of the arrests.  I want to personally thank you for your commitment to the department and to the citizens of Exeter for your efforts in taking impaired drivers off the road.

On behalf of the Town Of Exeter and all employees of the Exeter Police Department I take great pleasure in awarding you the department’s Annual DWI Hunter Award for 2013.

Congratulations and keep up the outstanding work.

Administrative Assistant Norma Ryan

The awards review committee has reviewed a number of different nominations for the employee of the quarter for October to December 2013. There were a number of people nominated by their peers for their work. The committee has chosen you to receive this award for your work during that period. A number of different reasons were listed as to why you should receive this award, they included:

  • That you were essential in keeping the prosecution paperwork functioning in an efficient manner when Deanna resigned.
  • You covered Deanna’s duties while still completing your own duties, until the new secretary was hired.
  • You continued to keep the prosecution office and the cases in order when the Prosecutor resigned.
  • You were able to professionally handle a number of different attorneys that were working on our cases.
  • During all of this the court changed our court dates and scheduling of arraignments.
  • You teamed with Captain Shupe to keep the schedule of arraignments in order.

Throughout this entire change you handled all these extra duties without complaint. Your performance reflected very well on yourself and the Exeter Police Department and I thank you for that. I want you to know that   your efforts do not go unnoticed. Congratulations on being named Employee of the Quarter and keep up the good work.

Captain William Shupe
