Exeter Remembers Fire Capt. Wayne Raymond

Raymond was an Exeter firefighter for 50 years.



Wayne Raymond, an Exeter firefighter for 50 years, was remembered during a memorial service Friday.

Raymond died Saturday at Exeter Hospital at the age of 77. The cause was cancer, according to his obituary.

Firefighters from across the region gathered at St. Michael's Church to honor his life.

Raymond was a lifelong resident of Exeter. He was voted "Firefighter of the Year" in 2010.

"Captain Raymond was a well respected and active member of the Exeter Fire Department," said Fire Chief Brian Comeau. "His dedication to serving the community of Exeter will be missed."

Raymond served on the Exeter Fireman’s Relief Association, Exeter Firefighters Association and the New Hampshire State Fireman’s Association, among other organizations. He was a supervisor of the checklist for the Town of Exeter, trustee of Swasey Parkway and a member of the St. Michael’s Church choir.

He leaves behind his wife of 56 years, Theresa.
