Man Charged with Attempting to Suffocate 3-Year-Old Girl

Kevin J. Lynch is being held on $250,000 cash bail pending his arraignment on Monday.

Exeter Police announced Saturday that they have arrested a Rochester man for attempting to suffocate a 3-year-old girl.

Kevin J. Lynch, 27, a transient originally from Rochester, was charged with a felony count of first degree assault on a child.

On Friday, Exeter Police responded to investigate a report of a possible child abuse victim at the Exeter Hospital Emergency Unit. The mother of the 3-year-old girl had brought her in due to some visible problems with her eyes.

The Exeter Police Criminal Investigation Division developed the mother’s boyfriend, Lynch, as a strong suspect. Detectives were later able to obtain a confession from Lynch detailing the assault, which contained periods of brief suffocation of the child.

He is currently being held at the Rockingham County Jail on $250,000 cash bail and will be arraigned on Monday.
