Police ID Victims in Horrific Hampton Bicycle Wreck

Police said a driver slammed into a group of bicyclists in Hampton Saturday morning, killing two and injuring two more.

The crash happened during the 40th annual Granite State Wheelmen Tri-State Seacoast Century Ride.

Police identified the deceased as Pamela Wells, 60, of South Hamilton, Mass., and Elise Bouchard, 52, of Danvers, Mass.

The injured riders were Uwe Uhmeyer, 60, of Essex, Mass., and Margo Heigh, 54, of Danvers, Mass., police said. They were being treated at local hospitals.

Deputy Police Chief Rich Sawyer told Patch a vehicle operated by Darriean Hess, 20, of Seabrook, was traveling southbound over the Neil R. Underwood Memorial Bridge on Route 1A when for unknown reasons her vehicle "veered over" into the northbound lane and struck the four bicyclists. Sawyer said Hess' vehicle then hit several road signs before it "decimated" the "Welcome to Seabrook Beach" sign.
No charges were immediately filed against Hess. Sawyer said an investigation is ongoing.
"The reason she crossed over is something we still haven't determined," said Sawyer.
