Victim Toll Rises in 'Serial Infector' Case
Health officials say David Kwiatkowski spread his hepatitis C to dozens of patients across the country.
Health officials now say 44 patients across the country have contracted hepatitis C from medical technician David Kwiatkowski, who allegedly spread his disease by injecting himself with patients' medication to get high.
Kwiatkowksi, who was placed at more than a dozen hospitals by staffing agencies, allegedly infected 32 patients when he worked at Exeter Hospital.
On Friday, Maryland health officials said four patients at The Johns Hopkins Hospital tested positive for Kwiatkowski's hepatitis C strain, according to the Associated Press.

Kwiatkowski, 33, is currently sitting in jail on fraud and tampering charges. He faces up to 98 years in jail and $3.5 million in fines. U.S. Attorney John Kacavas called him a "serial infector." Kwiatkowski has pleaded not guilty.
