Exeter 'Serial Infector' Indicted

Dave Kwiatkowski is charged with infecting 32 Exeter Hospital patients with his hepatitis C.

Dave Kwiatkowksi, the Exeter Hospital worker charged with infecting 32 patients with hepatitis C, was indicted this week on federal drug charges, according to the U.S. Attorney John P. Kacavas.

The 33-year-old Kwiatkowski faces 98 years in jail and $3.5 million in fines for his alleged crimes.

Kwiatkowski was charged with seven counts of tampering with a consumer product and seven counts of stealing drugs. Prosecutors say Kwiatkowski spread his hepatitis C to patients by injecting himself with their medication to get high. He would then replace syringes with a saline solution to make it appear as if they were never touched, prosecutors said.

Kacavas said Kwiatkowski faces up to 10 years in jail on each tampering charge and up to four years for each stolen drug charge. He also faces up to a $250,000 fine for each of his 14 charges.

An indictment means a grand jury has determined a trial is warranted based on evidence in the case.
