Local School Earns National Award

Newfields Elementary School was one of three New Hampshire schools to win the National Blue Ribbon School award.

Newfields Elementary School this week was named a National Blue Ribbon School.

It was one of 286 schools across the country that received the award.

The school was recognized for students' exemplary performance on national and/or state tests, according to state officials.

"The school encourages academic excellence in a nurturing environment where all individuals are valued intellectually, emotionally, artistically, socially and physically and are empowered to develop to their maximum potential so that they can make contributions to the global community," according to the award.

Newfields Elementary School has about 150 students in kindergarten through 5th grade.

Hollis Primary School and Lin-Wood Public Elementary School were the two other New Hampshire schools to win the national award.

"We are delighted that three of our schools were chosen to receive Blue Ribbon School status," said New Hampshire Department of Education Commissioner Virginia M. Barry in a statement. "The fact that we have three award winners again this year is a testament to the hard work being done by students, parents, educators, and everyone who plays a role in the education of our children. These schools represent all the excellent schools in New Hampshire that are working hard to improve achievement for all students."
