Acorn Organic Salon Arrives in Exeter

Acorn Organic Salon's hairstyling prowess is known well in Dover. Now, it's available right in downtown Exeter.

Area residents know all about Acorn Organic Salon in Dover, including its loyal following and its best-in-class practices when it comes to making women beautiful without the use of harmful dyes and chemicals.

But now, Exeter area residents don’t have to travel up to Dover to get the best in salon services, as Acorn has recently opened a new location in Exeter’s historic district at 9 Pleasant Street in Exeter, within the highly-regarded Aura Day Spa. The salon in Exeter is open for hairstyling (for the whole family, including men and children, colors, and perms Thursdays and Fridays from 10 AM - 8 PM, and Saturdays from 10 AM - 6 PM.

Co-owner Alle Degan is confident that Acorn Organic Salon is a good fit for Exeter’s growing community. “Our customers want to look good, they care about their health, but they don’t want to pay a premium for salon services,” explained Degan. “And that’s exactly what we offer - a great combination of style and value.”

Knowing that she needed a premier stylist to get Acorn’s new salon in Exeter on the map, co-owner Laura Mackay hired talented young stylist Katie Wolfson as the new location’s primary beauty consultant and stylist. Having honed her hair styling and makeup skills at a well-known salon chain and through freelancing, Wolfson brings flair and versatility to her craft.

“While I’m very experienced at giving women hairstyles they need to feel confident in the office, my specialty is styles that are funky, fun, and bombastic,” Wolfson said with a playful grin.  Whether it’s a request for a demure or sassy look, Wolfson’s got the ability to satisfy just about any customer request.

And given the fact it’s wedding and outdoor function season in New England, she’s also delighted about the opportunity to work in a salon that takes health of its clients and its employees seriously. “I’m very sensitive to smells, including the perfumes and fragrances used in chemical dyes that traditional salons use all the time,” mentioned Wolfson. “So for health reasons, it’s great to work in an organic salon that uses natural, safe hair coloring products.”

And both Acorn Organic Salon’s Dover and Exeter locations are members of the Green Alliance, a union of over 90 green businesses across New Hampshire, southern Maine, and northern Massachusetts that connects green businesses with the region’s burgeoning eco-conscious community. Members of the Green Alliance get 15% off all salon services at both locations.

“Some of our regular customers who flash their Green Alliance ‘Green Card’ save as much as $80/year just on cuts and colors,” said Degan. “And Green Alliance memberships are available for purchase at Acorn’s Dover location, with many clients putting their discount to use immediately.” Green Cards are also available on the web at www.greenalliance.biz/join.

“Saving money and look good; what’s not to like about that?” concluded Degan.
