Volunteers Help Clean Up Exeter

They helped spruce up Swasey Parkway.

The following is a news release:

A rainy June Saturday found 40 young and old volunteers from the outdoors. They planted bushes and flowers, prepared a vegetable garden and collected debris on the beach. This was the first “Saturday of Service” planned by the Outreach Committee in support of local community groups that provide important services in our area.

Perennials and bushes were planted at the newly opened Exeter Community Assistance Center on Lincoln Street and a vegetable patch prepared for Seacoast Family Promise families to complete. The beach cleanup yielded 35 pounds of trash.

A final project, staining 19 benches on Swasey Parkway, was completed after a short rain delay. The Swasey Parkway Board of Trustees, Jay Perkins, Ruthanne Rogers, and Gerry Hamel have supported this project. Hamel, a home renovations contractor, has worked with the Outreach Committee and shared his expertise. Exeter Paint on Portsmouth Avenue generously donated stain and supplies for the project.
