Police Chief Michael Maloney Memorialized in DC

As part of Police Week in Washington, Patch takes a deeper look at police fatalities.

From postal inspectors to small-town sheriffs, Congress has dedicated the week of May 15 to honoring America's law enforcement officers—especially those killed in the line of duty—each year. One of those honored this year is Greenland Police Chief Michael Maloney, who was killed during a drug raid on April 12, 2012. While the number of officers killed in the line of duty has fallen since the 1970s (see our graphic, above), more officers have been killed so far in 2013 than the same time last year, according to a report by the Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, released on Monday. The FBI also released a report on Monday, which showed officer fatalities declined in 2012 compared to 2011. The FBI report said 47 officers were killed by …

Bombing Victim Lu Lingzi Remembered

The Chinese national was studying statistics at Boston University. She was killed in Monday's bombing at the Boston Marathon.

A Chinese newspaper has identified the third Boston Marathon bombing victim as Lu Lingzu, a Boston University graduate student, according to the Associated Press. Lu, from Shenyang, China, was studying statistics. A second Chinese national and BU student, Zhou Danling, was also injured in the blasts. She is listed in stable condition in a Boston hospital, according to Chinese officials. Lu's death has led to an outpouring from friends, family and concerned neighbors in China. Lu's Sina Weibo page already has 20,000 comments from shocked and upset friends (Sina Weibo is a Chinese social media service that combines Twitter- and Facebook-like features).  A former neighbor in China was elegiac when talking about Lu on his Sina Weibo page. Epping, NH — Joshua "Josh" David Krantz, 24, died unexpectedly on April 6, 2013 in Dover, NH. He was born in Exeter, NH on June 17, 1988, the son of David J. and Cheryl A. (Thibeault) Krantz of Epping, NH. Josh grew up in Epping and was a lifelong resident. Even as a child, he loved football and started playing first with Nor-Rock Pop Warner, thru junior high and went onto play four years for the Epping High School Team. Amanda Jean Warf, 36, died Thursday March 7, 2013. Amy was born in Portsmouth on August 18, 1976 the daughter of Nancy (Keiling) Warf and the late Arnold "Ed" Warf.  She attended North Hampton Elementary School and graduated from Winnacunnet in 1994. Ms. Warf was employed many for Exeter Hospital as a financial counselor and had formerly worked for Hair Excitement at the Fox Run Mall in Newington. Her 11 month old son William Edward was the light of her life. OBITUARY: Adam Dale Timberlake

The 2005 Londonderry High School graduate died Nov. 23 following a two-year battle with cancer.

Adam D. Timberlake, 26 of Manchester, NH died November 23, 2012 in the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston, MA following a two year battle with cancer. Adam was born in Newton, MA on December 10, 1985. He was the son of Giovanna M. (Varisco) Timberlake and the late Robert D. Timberlake who died in 2008. He was a resident of Manchester for the past few years, formerly of Londonderry where he was a 2005 graduate of Londonderry High School. Adam was employed as a manager for Market Basket in Stratham, NH. In addition to his enjoyment of playing golf, tennis and fishing, Adam loved to play his guitar and listen to music. OBITUARY: Herbert L. Arnold, Former Exeter Teacher

He taught at the Exeter Junior High School.

Herbert L. Arnold, who taught at the former Exeter Junior High School and directed the adult education program, died earlier this month. He was 92 years old. Arnold lived in Madison, according to his obituary in the Conway Daily Sun. Arnold taught at the Exeter Junior High School from 1961 to 1974. He was the head of the science department. He was born in Madison on Jan. 12, 1920, according to his obituary. He served in World War II as a photo interpreter.

Service for Nancy Merrill Today

She was a librarian and curator for the Exeter Historical Society.

A memorial service will be held today for Nancy Lee Carnegie Merrill, who worked at the Exeter Public Library and the Exeter Historial Society. She died this week the age of 89. The service will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Brewitt Funeral Home. Merrill and her husband David helped raise six children, according to her obituary. She wrote "Exeter, New Hampshire, 1888-1988," a history of the town in that time period. Merrill was a former curator of the Exeter Historical Society. The historical society established the Nancy Carnegie Merrill Historical Award scholarship for high school students.
