More than 1,300 pounds of drugs were taken off the street.
More unwanted prescription drugs were taken off the street in Exeter than in any community in Rockingham County during a recent takeback event. Exeter police said they collected about 168 pounds from about 50 people in one day in late April. In the county, various communities collected a total about 1,346 pounds. "Every day 2,500 kids abuse prescription drugs for the first time," Exeter police said in a statement. "Seventy percent of people who abuse prescription pain relievers say they got them from friends or relatives. Also currently many unwanted or expired household and prescription medications are improperly disposed of." Exeter police have held several takeback events in recent years. The girl went missing in 1984.
Exeter's police chief says he knows who was behind the disappearance of Tammy Belanger, who has been missing for nearly 30 years. Police Chief Richard Kane told WMUR-TV he believes Victor Wonyetye, a Florida sex offender who died last year, was behind Belanger's disappearance. [Read the full WMUR story here] Before he died, Wonyetye denied he had anything to do with Belanger's disappearance. Kane urged anyone with information on the case to come forward.

The service is available 24 hours a day—no questions asked.
After a series of prescription drug takeback events, Exeter police are now offering a permanent disposal box at the police station. The box is located in the station lobby on Court Street. People can drop off unwanted or unused prescription drugs—no questions asked—at any time. A takeback event at the station Saturday saw about 50 people drop off unused or unwanted drugs. Police said getting rid of drugs in this fashion is more environmentally sound than tossing them in the trash or flushing them down the toilet because they can contaminate soil and waterways. Police called it a "safe, sustainable and secure" method to dispose of the drugs. "Every day 2,500 kids abuse prescription drugs for the first time," police said in a statement. "…
