Jerry and Sue DeLemus throw their support behind former Pennsylvania Senator.
A day after Michele Bachmann dropped out of the presidential race, one of her biggest boosters in New Hampshire has decided to throw his support behind Rick Santorum. Jerry DeLemus, chairman of the Granite State Patriots Libery PAC and the founder of the Rochester 9-12 Project, announced minutes ago that he is backing Santorum. His wife, State Rep. Sue DeLemus, R-Rochester, is also supporting the former Pennsylvania Senator. Jerry DeLemus had endorsed Bachmann last month, after months of agonizing over the decision. He has frequently criticized Mitt Romney for failing to appear before New Hampshire Tea Party groups, and even led an anti-Romney protest in September at a Tea Party Express event in Concord where the former Massachusetts …

Candidate's exit expected to have little impact on NH Primary.
After a disappointing finish in the Iowa caucuses, Michele Bachmann announced this morning that she is suspending her campaign for the Republican presidential nomination. The move is expected to have little-to-no impact on the New Hampshire Primary, veteran political scientist Dean Spiliotes said. "Probably not in general, and certainly not here in New Hampshire," he said. "She didn't spend a lot of time here. So much is driven by this national narrative that it's been over for her nationally for a while." For a brief time, Bachmann appeared to be a contender in New Hampshire. Following a strong debate performance in Manchester back in June, she rocketed into second place in the polls here, behind only Mitt Romney. But she then failed to …

Iowa Caucus result only adds to the intrigue.
Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum were declared the big winners in Tuesday's Iowa caucuses, but the real winner might just be New Hampshire. The tight race between Romney and Santorum – with Ron Paul at their heels – has left things wide open heading into next week's first-in-the-nation primary. “This is going to make this much more interesting than if somebody were to have broken out of the pack,” said Pat Griffin, senior fellow at Saint Anselm College’s New Hampshire Institute of Politics. Sure Romney’s 8-vote win in a state where many thought he had no shot gives him a big boost. And Santorum’s close second establishes him as a legitimate contender. But the result also adds a bit of suspense to next week’s voting. “At the end of the day, …

Leadership qualities abound in this election cycle's slate of candidates. But only – Ron Paul – has a cosmic edge.
There's a certain ratio of shoe leather-to-glad-handing that candidates must expend while campaigning to win the hearts and minds of New Hampshire's notoriously savvy voters. The rest is written in the stars, according to those who believe it takes some favorable astrology to succeed in life – and in this case, to win the Jan. 10 New Hampshire Primary. Portsmouth astrologer Dorothy Morgan, longtime student of the planetary push and pull, believes it comes down to a matter of fate – or more precisely, one's destiny as mapped out by the cosmic forces of the heavens. She said the vague and general predictions of daily horoscopes are misleading. True astrology, when looked at based on accurate, individual information, is actually extremely …

No vote goes uncourted as presidential hopefuls make primary dash.
Forget Iowa. Jon Huntsman did. He's campaigning here right up until the clock strikes 2012. But will that resolve last a few more days longer until the New Hampshire Primary? Or will auld acquaintance be forgot and never brought to mind? Mind yourself, this is your Primary Countdown for Wednesday, Dec. 28. There are 13 days until we see if Huntsman's eggs-in-one-basket approach will allow him to pass Go and woo voters in other early states. Barnstormin' Jon Huntsman even has a party on New Year's Eve–albeit at midday–at the house of Jim Rubens, a former state senator and gubernatorial hopeful who has a share of conservative street cred. Some really, really like him: We asked Rubens what he likes in Huntsman. Rubens emailed back: "I like …

Supporters sweep the state in search of undecided voters.
Mitt Romney mingles with voters today before jetting off to Iowa, leaving the first-in-the-nation political playground to Jon Huntsman. Steve Forbes will be stumping around the 603 for Rick Perry, but let's face it, this week is really the calm before the storm. Enjoy it while it lasts. Welcome to Primary Countdown for Tuesday, Dec. 27. You've two more weeks of soup-to-nuts coverage until the New Hampshire Primary. Is Central NH Centric NH? Jon Huntsman has a town hall meeting Wednesday in Pelham, and his schedule takes his "Restoring Trust" tour to Central New Hampshire, with a swing through the Lakes Region, on Thursday and Friday. He's got some smart New Hampshire people on his campaign. Anyone else wonder where they see the independent…
