Exeter on Alert After West Nile Found in Stratham

Two batches of mosquitoes were found with the potentially deadly virus.

West Nile Virus was recently found in mosquitoes in Stratham, according to the state Department of Health and Human Services.

Two batches of mosquitoes in the town tested positive for the disease, which can be deadly to humans.

Exeter officials were alerted to the news. Town Manager Russ Dean said workers are testing catch basins in the areas of Hobart Street and Brickyard Pond, which are traditional hotspots for mosquito activity.

West Nile Virus brings flu-like symptoms that appear four to 10 days after being bitten.
