Wayne Raymond, Exeter Firefighter for 50 Years, Dies

He was voted "Firefighter of the Year" in 2010.

Wayne Raymond, an Exeter firefighter for 50 years, died Saturday at Exeter Hospital at the age of 77. The cause was cancer, according to his obituary.

Raymond was a lifelong resident of Exeter. He was voted "Firefighter of the Year" in 2010.

"He will be remembered for his contagious smile, dedication to his town, especially his wife and family," his obituary reads.

Raymond served on the Exeter Fireman’s Relief Association, Exeter Firefighters Association and the New Hampshire State Fireman’s Association, among other organizations. He was a supervisor of the checklist for the Town of Exeter, trustee of Swasey Parkway and a member of the St. Michael’s Church choir.

He leaves behind his wife of 56 years, Theresa.

Visiting hours will be held at Stockbridge Funeral Home Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A mass will be held Friday at St. Michael's Church at 11 a.m.
