Exeter Psychologist: I'm No Pimp

Alexander Marino was in court Monday after being charged with running a prostitution operation.

Dr. Alexander Marino, the Exeter psychologist charged with running an extensive prostitution operation of out his Portsmouth apartment, pleaded not guilty to several charges in Portsmouth Circuit Court Monday morning.

Marino, 38, was dressed in a blue, pin-stripe suit and was clean shaven as he appeared with his lawyer, John Driscoll, for his arraignment following his arrest in August by Portsmouth Police for allegedly allowing prostitution to take place at his Sagamore Court apartment.

Portsmouth Police Prosecutor Rena DiLando requested that Marino's $15,000 personal recognizance bail be maintained and that he possess no firearms, alcohol, or drugs and have no contact with Jim Parra, 22, of Kittery, Maine, or Brooke Parent, 21, of Manchester, the other two suspects who were charged in the case. Neither Parra or Parent, who are both facing prostitution charges, showed up for their arraignments.

"I don't think firearms have ever been an issue for my client, but we have not objection to that provision," said Driscoll.

Driscoll also told Judge Sawato Gardner that Marino continues to live with his parents in Harrison, N.Y. after Marino waived his extradition.

Outside the courtroom, Driscoll said that his client intends to fight the charges against him. "He maintains that he is not guilty and wants to clear his name."

Driscoll also said that Marino's parents are standing by their son "like a lot of families would."

on Tuesday on charges he allowed his residence to be used for the prostitution operation and for possession of controlled narcotic drugs.

According to Portsmouth Police, Marino used his apartment for prostitution where he advertised serves on backpage.com and had male clients go to the apartment complex before they entered the apartment to receive services. Police first learned about the prostitution activity in October 2011 and conducted surveillance in August before they arrested Marino, Parent and Parra.

Parent was subsequently arrested twice for prostitution in Manchester after she solicited two undercover Manchester Police detectives on the same day.
