Hundreds Say Bye to 'Always Smiling' Amy Warf

Mourners at the wake of a woman found murdered in Exeter said she was talented and dedicated to her infant son.

Hundreds attended a wake for a slain Hampton woman Tuesday evening less than an hour after police announced an arrest had been made in connection to her murder.

Family, friends and coworkers mourned Amanda "Amy" Warf, 36, a North Hampton native who moved to Hampton days before she was found dead in an abandoned Exeter factory last week, during calling hours at Remick and Gendron Funeral Home.

The wake started at 5 p.m., roughly half an hour after authorities announced Warf's ex-husband, Aaron Desjardins, had been charged with first-degree murder. Desjardins will be arraigned Wednesday morning.

Warf's family declined comment at Tuesday's calling hours, although some of her friends and acquaintances told Hampton-North Hampton Patch they were heartbroken to have to say goodbye to a "very enthusiastic" woman that was "always smiling."

"She was the best hair stylist I've ever been to," said one woman, who didn't wish to disclose her name. "Amy will be missed by a lot of people."

Warf was found dead in the abandoned City Concrete Co. factory in Exeter Thursday after firefighters put out a fire that was reported at about 7 a.m. Investigators said the cause of her death was "incised wounds" to her neck.

Warf and Desjardins had a son together, and he said they recently worked out a custody arrangement, according to the Associated Press.

Desjardins remarried and had a child with his new wife. Warf recently had a boyfriend.

Another acquaintance of Warf's told Patch that Warf's 11-month-old son "was everything to her" and that Warf "loved that little boy." The acquaintance, who also didn't wish to disclose her name, said Warf left her job at Hair Excitement in the Fox Run Mall after her son was conceived in order to take a job with Exeter Hospital, which the acquaintance said offered Warf better health benefits.

An aspiring hair stylist said at Tuesday's calling hours that Warf was "very laid back" and generous. She said she was moved when Warf offered to help her in her stylist training after she told Warf that the career interested her.

North Hampton Fire Chief Dennis Cote was among the mourners Tuesday. Cote, who said he was "close" with the family, said Warf's death is "sad." Cote declined additional comment.
